New statistics on poverty and social exclusion in the European Union were published by Eurostat in January 2016. Data were collected between 2013 – 2014 through the EU statistics on revenues and living conditions (EU-SILC). The risk of poverty and social exclusion - abbreviated AROPE - refers to: a) persons exposed to the risk of poverty, although they benefit from certain social services (transfers); b) those who are severely materially deprived; and c) persons living in households with a low work intensity.
